Abstract

The research analyzes the relationship between the construct of decision-making criteria and its proxy, managerial innovativeness, in the context of a public higher education institution, mediated by the construct of organizational decision-making quality. Decision Theory and managerial behavior come into play in this discussion, which involves managerial innovativeness aimed at optimizing daily organizational activities. In light of this, advances were observed in the internal activities of the institution under study, as better choices encouraged more innovative actions by managers. Increased administrative efficiency and the effectiveness of actions mediated by the quality of decision-making by managers at the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), the locus of the investigation, situated in the northern Amazon region of Brazil, were also noted. The literature has pointed out that the more management is capable of interpreting events inherent to its organizational context in a more rational and intuitive manner, envisioning a certain level of expectation that the decision-making will be the most accurate, the better the solution to the problems affecting organizations, thus achieving managerial innovativeness and enabling managers to reorganize their resources through the adoption of new managerial processes in complex environments. A structured questionnaire was used in the research, applied to UFPA managers, totaling 159 samples. The existence of influence between the constructs and the proxy was verified, as innovative actions tend to grow proportionally to the increase in the levels of decision-making criteria adopted and the quality of decision-making implemented.
