Abstract

Healthcare data is sensitive to security and privacy concerns. Medical records systems are typically centralized, resulting in a single point of vulnerability. Blockchain technology has been widely used to provide a high level of security, as it is a decentralized and immutable system in an encrypted environment. To address security and privacy concerns in healthcare records and promote data interoperability between organizations, physicians, and patients, this paper proposes a Blockchain-based architecture for data storage and exchange in Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems. The proposed architecture was based on the findings of three literature reviews, which investigated Blockchain platforms, Blockchain-based medical records management (EHR) systems, and Blockchain-based EHR system architecture. The proposed architecture addresses the challenges inherent in managing sensitive data in healthcare by offering a framework to ensure the immutability, integrity, and traceability of information. In addition to detailing the architecture's components and operation, the study also discusses the applicability and benefits of this proposal within the context of Brazil's Unified Health System (SUS). Implementing such a system in the SUS could revolutionize health data management, promoting greater security, efficiency, and trust between patients and professionals, while ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
