Abstract

This study developed and applied the solution to a problem of defaulting on payments by members of a sports club. To develop the solution, the Design Science Research (DSR) method (Hevner, March, Park, & Ram, 2004) was adopted, through the development of a technological artifact following the model proposed by Aken & Berends (2012) and adapted by Marcondes et al. (2017). The solution developed involves the development of a technological artifact responsible for automated communication and management with the purpose of reducing the number of defaulters and automating the company's communication with its members. The implementation of automation resulted in an 89% reduction in defaulting, a 16% increase in members up to date with their payments, improved communication effectiveness and efficiency, a 75% reduction in operating costs, and an estimated seven percent increase in financial revenue.
