Abstract

In recent years, a number of studies have highlighted the impact that universities have on the development of a region. They are no longer seen only as promoters of teaching and research, but as playing an important role in regional economic growth and development. The aim of this article is to assess the contribution and socio-economic impacts of the Bragança University Campus of the Federal University of Pará on the municipality of Bragança (PA) and the surrounding area. As for the methodology, the research is descriptive, with technical procedures of bibliographical research and an explanatory sequential mixed method approach. The research strategy was a case study of the Bragança University Campus of the Federal University of Pará, using questionnaires for 197 graduates and semi-structured interviews with nine local players. The results showed that the Bragança Campus of the Federal University of Pará has contributed to the formation of human capital, personal and professional improvement, the generation of employment and income, the appreciation of democracy, and environmental preservation. It can be concluded that the presence of the Federal University of Pará, through the Bragança University Campus, promotes the strengthening of the region's economy, contributing to the growth of local businesses and enterprises, by attracting a growing number of people to the municipality.
