ABSTRACT

Brazilian graduate programs must comply with CAPES guidelines to ensure academic quality, which requires robust instruments to monitor scientific output. In this context, the Lattes Platform constitutes a structured source of curricular data, but the lack of broader standardization on the web hinders large-scale electronic and automated information retrieval. This article aims to present and evaluate the automated LattesXtractor tool, developed to extract, organize, and analyze data from the Lattes Platform, focusing on the Medicine III area at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP). This is a descriptive and exploratory study, with a qualitative approach supported by quantitative analyses, including faculty advisers from ten Medicine III graduate programs (stricto sensu). The application, developed in Java®, processes XML files from the Lattes Curriculum and generates structures suitable for analysis in network software, especially Gephi, enabling the construction of collaboration graphs. The results showed that most researchers — 38.26% — have between two and five internal collaborations, while at opposite extremes lie the most critical cases: 10.74% show no scientific partnership within their programs and only 4.03% reach the highest level of connectivity, revealing relevant asymmetries in the distribution of scientific partnerships. The visual analysis of the networks made it possible to identify central researchers, collaboration communities, fragmented groups and isolated researchers, providing concrete inputs for program management and for reflection on the implications of these patterns in periodic CAPES evaluations.
